Ecommpay has introduced a new Apple Pay QR feature that enables merchants to accept Apple Pay payments on any device or browser — including Windows and Android. The upgrade aims to solve one of the biggest limitations of Apple Pay adoption: its dependence on Safari and Apple hardware.
With 70% of global online users browsing from Windows devices, merchants have long faced significant drop-off rates when customers attempt to pay with Apple Pay outside the Apple ecosystem. The new cross-platform QR functionality is designed to eliminate that friction and widen Apple Pay’s acceptance footprint.
Under the new system, Apple Pay QR is automatically enabled for all Ecommpay merchants using the company’s Payment Page. No extra coding, integration, or development work is required.
How It Works
- Customers browsing on non-Apple devices select Apple Pay at checkout.
- A unique QR code appears on the screen.
- Users simply scan the code with their iPhone or iPad, confirming the payment securely via their Apple Wallet — without having to enter any card details on the non-Apple device.
Arturs Zaremba, head of the internal payment solutions stream at Ecommpay, said:
“Integrating Apple Pay QR into the Ecommpay checkout path opens payment capabilities across the entire digital landscape. With Apple Pay’s historically strong conversion performance, extending this method to non-Apple devices will bring even greater success for forward-looking merchants.”
Impact on Consumers and the Market
This update could be a game-changer for both conversion rates and cross-device commerce:
For Consumers
- Apple Pay users can now complete purchases even when shopping on Windows PCs or Android browsers.
- Checkout becomes faster, more secure, and more consistent across devices.
For Merchants
- Reduced cart abandonment — traditionally high when Apple Pay is unavailable on non-Apple devices.
- Increased conversion, especially in markets where Apple Pay adoption is high but device fragmentation persists.
- Zero integration effort lowers implementation friction and cost.
For the Payments Market
This shift contributes to a broader trend: digital wallets breaking free from device lock-in. By enabling Apple Pay beyond Apple hardware, Ecommpay is helping accelerate wallet-based payments and weakening the checkout dominance of cards in browser ecosystems.
It also places competitive pressure on PSPs and alternative wallets to build equally seamless multi-device experiences.
